The academic growth of each child is determined by his or her classwork, homework and tests. Each child is expected to maintain an overall minimum average of "C". However students are urged to work assiduously and not settle for an average performance. Students earning 70% and over are highlighted on the school's "Board of Excellence".
Students earning an average of 85% and over earns the Principal's Honour Roll.
Students at Grades 9 and 10 whose average are 70% and over qualifies for the Accelerated programme where they sit CSEC Examinations at both grades.
Students whose average falls below 50% must participate in Academic Interventions to improve their academic performance.
Students performing exceptionally well in both internal and external examinations are highlighted on the school's "Board of Excellence" on a semester basis. Students are also formally recognized at the "Child Month" functions held in May of each year (Outstanding results from 1st semester examination) and at the school's Annual Prize Giving which is usually held in the last week of September (school's anniversary which highlights outstanding results from the 2nd Semester Exams and External Exam results).

Grades 7,8, & 9: Mathematics, English Language, English Literature, Social Studies, Integrated Science, Spanish, French, Resource & Technology, Music, Drama, Religious Education, and Physical Education are subjects offered. Students MUST gain at least a 'C' average in all subjects.
Grades 10 & 11: Students begin earnest preparation for CXC with School Based Assessments (SBA) and other external examinations at grade 10 and are encouraged to take their work seriously.
Students must maintain an overall average of "C". Students at Grade 10 & 11 complete compulsory courses in Mathematics, English Language, two Vocational areas and subjects from options 1 - 1V as outlined by the school.

Academic, vocational and technical study courses are offered at Bridgeport High spanning a five-year period from grade 7 - 11.
Students are tested monthly for each subject during the school year. These grades determine the child's term performance. At the end of each semester the school holds major internal exams, after which reports are prepared for students to be accessed online by parent/guardian.
